History book completed

"Many hands make a load lighter" certainly has been the case these past four years as slowly, at times a snail's pace, our new History Book, Blacktop to Black Gold, emerged and was officially launched on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2014.
Blacktop to Black Gold
On April 28, 2014, members of the History Book Committee worked with Ted Miller of Friesens History Books on organizing 鈥淏lacktop to Black Gold鈥, which Irene Doty was happy to say had more than 900 pictures. Here Ted Miller, Audrey Brady, Irene Doty, Lynn Brady, Beth Corrigan, and Nedra Clark work. Missing from photo: Barb Haddow and Alyce Stockton.

"Many hands make a load lighter" certainly has been the case these past four years as slowly, at times a snail's pace, our new History Book, Blacktop to Black Gold, emerged and was officially launched on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2014. How gratifying and exciting to see the hall fill up with people all anxious and interested in getting their copy or perhaps learning more about the book and to witness the "unveiling of the first book printed!"

The tables had been decorated and beautiful flower bouquets and flower arrangements were on each table.

We have to admit that it was an emotional moment for us all as the book was unveiled and revealed to the public for the first time. It had been a long "journey" and one that each and every one of us had faith and hope that we would see this second edition of the history of Carlyle and District completed.

There are so many, many people who helped us meet our goal and expectations: the proof readers, the typists, the artists, the workers at the barbecue luncheons and raffles, curling rink bonspiel kitchen, all those who were asked time and time again to provide a pot of soup, sandwich filling, cakes, dainties, etc Everyone was so willing and eager to help us try to push that red indicator up, up, up on the Main Street thermometer and everyone who helped the day of the launch.

The only way we can ever express our appreciation for everyone "pitching in" is to say a very, very humble, "Thank you!"

We hope you are enjoying the new History Book. It is hard to put it down. Once you begin to browse through and start to read, you want to read on and on. Prepaid books are available at the Town Office or you can buy books there or at Pharmasave. Pictures can also be picked up at the Town Office.

We are however, just a little mystified about the lovely bouquets of flowers that were waiting for each committee member when we arrived at the hall Thursday morning to set up and decorate. Whoever you are, it was such a lovely and thoughtful gesture and we are enjoying them.
