Business and town infrastructure top priorities.

MOOSOMIN — Heather Truman is back seeking a seat on council, after an eight-year hiatus.

“I enjoyed it,” she said of her experience. “I think I need to get back in there because we’ve got so much happening.”

A gentle nudge from a current member of council ultimately tipped the scale of Truman’s decision to submit a nomination paper.

“Larry (Tomlinson) came to me and he said, ‘Heather, we need someone with business experience again’,” she said. “I think our town is in that situation at the moment. You’ve got to budget for your income, and do the priorities.”

Business and ensuring town infrastructure meets the needs of future residents are top priorities for Truman.

“Our town is growing. We really need to look at the economics of it,” she said. “We’ve got housing going on, we just have to look at our businesses and also the economics and the infrastructure in the town. We can’t keep building unless we do the infrastructure, which comes first.”

Using the $30,000 home incentive program as an example, Truman says infrastructure ought to be a priority to be prepared for more housing.

“You’ve got to get the infrastructure in place before you have these houses,” she said. “You’ve got to designate and get the finances together and budget for it and get it done.”

Another area Truman is very excited about is the Moosomin Airport and all the potential it holds.

“Let’s promote that, and see if we can get some commercial flights going between here and Brandon, Saskatoon, and Regina,” she said.

In terms of her involvement with local organizations, Truman remains a longtime member of the Library Board—something that her previous time on council led to. She’s also active with the Moosomin Chamber of Commerce and with Saskatchewan Party candidate Kevin Weedmark’s campaign in the Moosomin-Montmarte riding.

“Politics has always been an interest of mine,” said Truman.
