The Carlyle Happy Gang is replacing the flooring in their facility, contracting the project out locally.
Years ago 鈥淧rairie spirit鈥 would have likely been foremost and the group would have taken on the project themselves if it wasn鈥檛 for some very stiff legs that just would not bend to the task.
One of the long-time residents of the community who has sat at the Happy Gang Senior Centre since the turn of this century, just could not get up and move on its own to make way for the workers to complete the flooring project.
Organizer Pat Anderson called on the Living Skies Crossfit to see if they could come up with enough able-bodied members to assist in moving the aging resident once more.
This resident with eight legs and a storied past never ever had nimble limbs. It began its stay in town at Kinnees鈥 Pool Hall around 100 years ago and likely never has been co-operative when needed to move.
This table, which was known as the No. 2 table before the pool hall closed in 1978, was purchased by Howard and Audrey Young, much to the delight of son Tim, who was quite happy to see it take up residence in the family鈥檚 garage and remain on Main Street, where he and his friends kept the aging community member company most nights.
Time marches on and when son Tim moved away from home, the Youngs reclaimed their garage and donated the table to the Happy Gang Senior Centre. The table is now taking up permanent residency there.
Having spent 20 years in the centre, it stretched its legs a couple more times to make way for the linoleum being installed and probably matched up weighing in at a pound for each of the 2,700 square feet of linoleum being installed.
