The Carlyle "Green and Clean" event wasn't the hit Jennifer Sedor predicted, the president of the Carlyle beautification committee said the turn out for the day saw only a few people.
"We didn't get the turn out we wanted, we didn't get done what we needed to, but you know what - the park looks a lot better," she said.
The event held on June 15, was centred on getting residents and business owners to revamp the community's appearance by having a concerted effort in cleaning and beautifying the neighborhood. This involves the removal of weeds and garbage between stores on Main Street, as well as maintaining flower beds, shrubs and the trimming of trees on residential properties. The committee promised an incentive as the best business and residential properties would receive prizes courtesy of Home Hardware and Country Garden Greenhouse. The beautification committee's goal is to have a general standard set in the community that represents cleanliness; however one aspect to the entire operation was having volunteers come out to aid in the cleanup of Centennial Park. According to Sedor this aspect of the event wasn't as successful as she wanted but said with limited manpower they were able to put in an ample amount of work at the park.
"We did really well with the rototilling, it took a lot of work, the beds were really over grown," she said.
She however pleaded that residents should help in any way they can and do their part in maintaining the park's appeal.
"It would be nice to see even if people walked through and picked one weed - you don't have to spend a lot of time on it for it to turn out nice. If you see the flowers wilting, grab the watering can and give them water. It everybody's park and we're all going to take care of it," Sedor said.
She explained that the next phase of cleaning for Centennial Park is to install the landscape mat and rock in the beds. Sedor praised those who came out and said she welcomes all who are willing to help in whatever way they can. The judging of business and home owner's property will take place on July 15.
