General discussion
Mayor Don Shirley attended a farewell tea for Mel and Marilyn George at the United Church. With the George's moving, an opening on Town Council has developed. Nominations will be accepted between Feb. 3 and Feb. 19 during regular business hours at the Carlyle Civic Centre. This will be followed by elections.
The Zoning Bylaw Amendment was read for a first time. The bylaw is being amended to clarify its intentions as it was found to be somewhat unclear by the councillors.
Council decided to send a resolution to SUMA regarding the Carlyle Housing Authority and the issue of having vacant spaces in West View as non-seniors are no longer allowed to rent the units. Though intended for seniors, if vacancies were not filling Carlyle Housing Authority would put non-seniors waiting for an apartment to open on the south side of town in them with the understanding that if a senior became in need of a space the non-senior would be given a month to vacate. This, however, was deemed to no longer be acceptable, which is posing difficulties to some regarding housing in the area.
The Fire Board has purchased a new snow machine and a cargo trailer to be used in relation with the variety of calls they receive throughout the year.
Finally council was sent an informational email stating that SaskDocs would be available between Feb. 17 and Feb. 21 to speak with town councils within Sun Country regarding the retention of doctors. The Town of Carlyle agreed that they would like to set up a meeting with SaskDocs and would, if possible, like to have the two doctors who were recruited through this means attend as well.
