Pink Day: One Colour, One Purpose, One Community! The GFK/CES 3rd Annual Pink Day was held on Wednesday, May 1st. The High School Respect Ed. Team (Katie, Brooklyn, Emily, Bjorn, and Kyle) had anti-bullying presentations for students at all grade levels. Also the school division "techies" gave a very informative presentation about the cyber-bullying issue. The high school students were partnered with elementary students and each pair spent the afternoon interacting while participating in activities. It was a great day all about making new friends and sending a message about bullying. Thank you to all of the event organizers for making the day such a success.

Congratulations to Raine Smith and Mackenna Morrison on making it to the Division Rookie Badminton Finals and playing for the championship Saturday in Wapella! They played and won against five different teams to make it to the finals. They ended up with the silver medal. Way to go!

The GFK Track and Field Team is practicing 2 days a week after school. May 22 - Sub-district track meet in Carnduff. May 29 - District Track meet in Weyburn

The SLT is also participating in "We Create Change." This is an initiative through Free the Children to have the largest penny drive in Canadian history. As the penny goes out of circulation, donate pennies to support clean water projects in our Adopt a Village communities around the world. Please send your pennies to the school to participate in this very worthy cause. Breanna Kehler organized a vow of silence thatraised funds for Free the Children. Shayna Nicolay, Kaelie Bouchard, Grace Smyth, Halle Doty, and Alana Aalbers all participated. In addition to raising awareness for children around the world, $310 was raised to support them. There is a Mother's Day Breakfast on Friday, May 10. It starts at 8:15. Everyone is welcome.

The Search Institute has identified the building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. One of these assets is having a "Positive Family Communication." The Institute reports that for healthy development, young people need parents who communicate positively. Also the young person must be willing to seek advice from parents. Another asset is "Family Support." Healthy young people need a family life that provides high levels of love and support.
