Gordon F. Kells High School Cougar Corner

We are working towards improving literacy in our school. Towards that end, we would like to buy as many good books as possible. Our students read a wide range of novels during their uninterrupted, sustained, silent reading time during English Language Arts classes. To help our students become "readers for life," the School Community Council and the Gordon F. Kells Staff are putting on a pizza sale. All of the proceeds will be going towards purchasing books for our school library.

Our goal is to sell 600 pizzas. That will raise about $4,000 to put towards books for our students. Each family will receive a booklet of 10 pizza coupons to sell. More can be acquired if needed. We plan to have money taken in by February 10 and pizzas distributed on March 10. We also need help to assemble the pizzas on March 10. Our last pizza making day turned out to be a lot of fun for the School Community Council members, staff, and parents who attended. So please make plans to help us out on March 10!

"Our Readers are Future Leaders!"

The two G.F.K. Senior Girls' Curling Teams have their Division Playoffs on Feb. 14 and 15 in Estevan. Good luck girls! The curling teams continue to have practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

Senior, junior, and rookie badminton will be starting up next week.

The Junior Drama Club has started to meet on Thursdays after school while the Senior Drama Club continues to meet Monday evenings. They are both looking forward to competing at the Regional Festival in Oxbow the last weekend in March.

The Student Council continues to sell muffins and donuts ($1 each) during the first break of each day.

Meditation classes are being offered. For time and locations, please contact the school.

Local businesses can have a business-card size advertisement placed in the yearbook for $20 or they can sponsor a photo page for $30. Half-page and full-page advertisements are also available. If you are interested in placing an ad in the GFK yearbook please contact Melissa Sweet for details. If anyone has taken pictures of GFK students which might be of interest to the Yearbook Committee, please email them to Melissa Sweet at [email protected] so the pictures can be included in the 2011-2012 yearbook. The 2010/2011 yearbooks will be available in mid-November.

Anyone who is interested in advertising on the school's virtual signs should contact Mr. Howe at the school. For all of your Gordon F. Kells news and updates, check out the new virtual signs or visit our school blog at gfkells.wordpress.com!
