The two senior girl's curling teams consisting of Renae Faford, Kacey Valentine, Brooklyn Zacharias, Desirae Weber, Rachel Corrigan, Emily Klatt, Nicole Brown, and Nikita Meyer, played at the Division Bonspiel on Feb. 14 and 15. Both teams had a win and a loss on Day One to advance to playoffs. Despite playing well, both teams lost their games in the playoff round. Thanks to the drivers, Heather Faford, Neil Brown, Amanda Meyer, and Dione Weber and to Christine Canart, soon to be Birch, for coaching the girls this season. They had a great time learning more about curling and participating at Divisions.

Junior and Rookie badminton players have practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30. Senior players have practices on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00. The Junior Drama Club meets on Sundays at 6:00 and on Thursdays after school while the Senior Drama Club meets on Monday evenings and Thursday evenings. They are both looking forward to competing at the Regional Festival in Oxbow the last weekend in March.

On Friday, Feb. 17, the middle-years students participated in another Spirit Day. They dressed up and learned more about teamwork and leadership. They also had a lot of fun!

The Student Council continues to sell muffins and donuts ($1 each) during the first break of each day.

Meditation classes are being offered. For time and locations, please contact the school.

The Student Council is providing snacks for advisory groups once a week.

Parents are reminded that we need help to assemble the pizzas on March 10. This is for the Literacy Fundraiser. Our last pizza making day turned out to be a lot of fun for the School Community Council members, staff, and parents who attended. So please make plans to help us out on March 10!

Local businesses can have a business-card size advertisement placed in the yearbook for $20 or they can sponsor a photo page for $30. Half-page and full-page advertisements are also available. If you are interested in placing an ad in the GFK yearbook please contact Melissa Sweet for details. Yearbooks sold during the month of February will have a chance to win a $40 LifeTouch gift certificate.

If anyone has taken pictures of GFK students which might be of interest to the Yearbook Committee, please email them to Melissa Sweet at [email protected] so the pictures can be included in the 2011-2012 yearbook. The 2010/2011 yearbooks will be available in mid-November. Anyone who is interested in advertising on the school's virtual signs should contact Mr. Howe at the school. For all of your Gordon F. Kells news and updates, check out the new virtual signs or visit our school blog at gfkells.wordpress.com!
