Mrs. Rutten and 4 students from the Student Leadership Team just returned from the National Leadership Conference in Vancouver and Kelowna. Josh Brown, Halle Doty, Jake McLeod, and Kirk Zacharias, participated in the week-long event which promotes student leadership and spirit. They listened to guest speakers, participated in rallies, went on tours, met other students from all across Canada, and brought back some great ideas for their school. Thanks so much to all of those individuals, businesses, and organizations who helped make it possible and thanks to Mrs. Rutten for spending her week with our SLT representatives.
Congratulations to Matthew Forcier and Jory Dyck, who competed at the Senior Cross Country Meet in Carnduff last week. In the Midget Boys' category, Matthew finished 3rd and in the Junior Boys' category, Jory finished 7th. Jory will now be competing at the Provincial Meet on Oct. 4 at Madge Lake.
Rookie boys' and junior boys' volleyball continue practicing Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:20. Senior boys' volleyball continue practicing Tuesday evenings from 7-9 and Thursday mornings at 7:30.
Thanks to everyone who donated to the school's participation in the Terry Fox Run. The students had a beautiful afternoon to walk for a very important cause. Donations are still coming in.
This year at Gordon F. Kells School, we are piloting a new program called "Homework Hall of Fame." Our goal is to significantly improve the completion rates of homework in our school. We know this will improve student learning and success. The "Homework Hall of Fame" program consists of acknowledging all homework handed in on or before the due date. Teachers will give each student a Homework Completion Ticket for each on-time completed assignment. The student will then turn their ticket in to Mr. Saltel, who will, in turn, congratulate the student and place their ticket into the grade appropriate box. At the end of each month, during our Wednesday assembly, one ticket will be drawn for each grade and those students will receive a prize. Our hope is that the Homework Hall of Fame will encourage positive work ethic and the value of meeting deadlines, both of which are necessary life skills. Thank you so much to the local sponsors who have made this program possible.
