The last day of classes before the winter break is Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. The first day of classes in 2014 is Monday, Jan. 6. The staff and students of GFK wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!
The SLT has done a great job decking the halls. The advisory group doors also look awesome! This year the group decorating contest was won by the Donut Destroyers. The Mosaic Meal (Potluck) will again be held on the last day before the break, Dec. 20. Each student is asked to bring enough food for 5 - 6 people according to the grade's category (see below). The food is to be brought on Friday, Dec. 20, between 11:30 AM and 11:55 AM. Warming up the food at school is not possible, so please bring it ready to serve. The meal starts at noon. The categories are Grade 7, Chinese food; Grade 8, Mexican food; Grade 9, Italian food; Grade 10, Ukrainian food; Grade 11, appetizers; Grade 12, desserts. Please remember that our school is a "nut free" zone. Food Bank donations have also started to come in. The class which brings in the most food items, eats first at the Mosaic Meal. (Mondays are Double Days!) As an added incentive, if the school brings in more than 5000 items, Mr. Johnson will dye his hair blonde.
The grade 12 class would like to send out a big thank you to Evan's mom for hosting a Class of 2014 Christmas lunch. Thanks to Denise Anderson for treating the class to this wonderful meal.
The Winter Formal Dance was held on Friday, Dec. 13. Thank you to all of the staff and parent chaperones who helped make it possible. The students had a lot of fun.
The senior and junior drama clubs have started up again this year. In April, Carlyle will be hosting the Regional Festival.
On the last Thursday of the month, students from the G.F. Kells High School will be out in the community for 2 hours after school (3:15-5:15). They will be volunteering their time to make our community a better, cleaner place. If you would like some extra help, we are here for you. The last Day of Help involved free gift wrapping. Please contact Miss Wiebe via email: [email protected] with your ideas for Day of Help!
