Wow! The halls of GF Kells were piled to the top with food bank donations this season. The students brought in more than 2500 items for the local Food Bank. This is the most ever. The class with the most was the Grade 12 Class. They had an average of 69 items per student! Way to go GFK!

The Mosaic Meal (Potluck) will again be held on the last day before the break, Dec. 21. Each student is asked to bring enough food for 5 - 6 people according to the grade's category (see below). The food is to be brought on Friday, Dec. 21, between 11:30 AM and 11:55 AM. Warming up the food at school is not possible, so please bring it ready to serve. The meal starts at noon. The categories are Grade 7, Chinese food; Grade 8, Mexican food; Grade 9, Italian food; Grade 10, Ukrainian food; Grade 11, appetizers; Grade 12, desserts.

The week of December 10 the SADD group was very busy. They sold "mocktails" at noon each day. A big thanks goes out to everyone who purchased these refreshments. On Thursday, they welcomed Michelle Golebiowski to our school. She is from Winnipeg and lost a dear friend in a drunk driving accident. Manor school brought their grades 7 - 12, and we all listened intently as she shared her story. If you notice candy canes with red ribbons tied on them in some of the local stores, please take one and show your support against drinking and driving. Have a safe holiday season and please do not drink and drive. Be careful because we care. - The Gordon F. Kells SADD Group.

Mr. Zacharias, Mr. Saltel, and the grade 12's loved the production of Wizard of Oz at the Globe Theatre in Regina. A huge thank you goes out to Jason and Cindy Humphries, and to Laurie Lequyer for driving to the event. We couldn't have done it without you.

The next School Community Council meeting is Jan. 9 at 7:00 PM.

Drama season is here. Both the junior and senior drama clubs have started practising. Seniors meet Monday evenings at 7:00 and juniors meet after school on Thursdays. Both the seniors and the juniors will be competing in the Regional Festival in Lampman in the spring.

The Search Institute has identified the building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. The Cougar Corner will list 2 of these 40 Developmental Assets each week for the next 20 weeks. One of these assets is ability with "Planning and Decision Making." This involves young people planning ahead and knowing how to make wise decisions. Another asset is "Restraint." This means the young person believes it is important not to be sexually active or use alcohol or other drugs.
