Golf Kenosee hosts SGA Mixed Team championship

Golf Kenosee was home to the Saskatchewan Mixed Team Championship on Aug. 27 and 28. The tournament, which is the final event of the summer for Golf Saskatchewan, is open to all Golf Canada members.

Golf Kenosee was home to the Saskatchewan Mixed Team Championship on Aug. 27 and 28. The tournament, which is the final event of the summer for Golf Saskatchewan, is open to all Golf Canada members.

The tournament sees competitors from throughout Saskatchewan compete for the title every year. This year, 96 golfers took part in the tournament.

In order to be eligible to compete, competitors were required to be amateur golfers aged 19 years and over. Each team consisted of one male and one female competitor.

The weekend kicked off with a Friday night registration. Golfers were able to complete a practice round prior to the beginning of the tournament. This was in order to enable the golfers to become familiarized with the course. In addition, the golfers were treated to a social evening that served as an ice breaker.

Golfing started at 8:30 a.m. each morning with golfers taking to the course for their first round on Saturday morning. At the end of round one, locals Paul and Bev Grimes from Arcola and Aaron and Kate Robinson from Saskatoon led the tournament with scores of 69.

Torrie Coghlin and Abra Thompson from Saskatoon followed with a score of 70.

An early start on Sunday meant a beautiful day of golfing for competitors. With a beaming sun and not a cloud in the sky, golfers took to the course in hopes of capturing this year`s title.

The results of round two saw Aaron and Kate Robinson from Saskatoon with a score of 66, followed by Torrie Coghlin and Abra Thompson from Saskatoon with a score of 69. Carla Rokochy from Regina and Perry Rokochy from Humboldt finished round two with a score of 71.

The Mixed Team Championship was awarded to the team with the lowest gross score over the two days of golf. Flight prizes were awarded based on the gross overall scores.

This year, the Saskatchewan Mixed Team Championship title went to Aaron and Kate Robinson from Saskatoon. The two finished with a score of -9.

Finishing just behind the first place pair was Torrie Coghlin and Abra Thompson from Saskatoon finishing with a score of -5.

Golfers from Carlyle and area included:

Jordan Fenwick from Carlyle and Shelley Bigeagle from Manor who tied for third place with a +2.

Paul and Bev Grimes teamed up from Arcola and tied for sixth place with a +3.

From Kipling, Mike and Colleen Currie paired up to tie for eighth place with a +4.

Cheryl Dubois from Langbank teamed up with Ken James from Lumsden to tie for tenth place with a +5.

Kenosee Lake saw their very own Wendy and Garnet Currie place fifteenth with a +10.

Pat and Donna Coffey from Carlyle tied for sixteenth place with a +13.
