Every year, despite the hectic time of year, Santa Claus ensures he stops by Carlyle to take photos with all of the excited boys and girls in the area.
This year as he attends for Dickens Festival, Santa will be in town and photos with the jolly man will be available between 1p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Located in Memorial Hall youth will have a chance to meet Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas while also receiving a small treat bag.
During this time there are also activities and colouring for youth to take part in as held by the Dickens Committee in Memorial Hall.
Included in these activities are Dr. Finnystein's Real Cool Christmas Show between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. with magician, Patrick Roth. Following his performance Roth will be found in Memorial Hall making balloon animals until 3 p.m. Beginning at 2:30 p.m. will be Ye Olde Talent Show, which welcomes all to show off their unique talents for a chance to win a gift certificate to King's Department Store.
In the past Santa used to make two trips to Carlyle; he would stop for Dickens, but Santa would also come for Santa Claus Day where photos would be taken and a movie shown.
This year organizers were unable to organize a show at the theatre and have told Santa it's alright if he just stops in once to town.
Santa is very dedicated to giving back to the world and for this reason it is asked that if interested in a picture with him a donation for the Food Bank is brought. Organizers Sheila Colpitts and Cindy Moffatt ask that either a monetary donation be made or a non-perishable food item brought in order to help the Food Bank this Christmas season.
The Food Bank is in need all year, but strain can be put on families at Christmastime as they attempt to make the holiday memorable. People are in continual need in the area as the Food Bank helps between 20 and 30 families each week, while at Christmas the need often doubles.
