Act One Productions of Alida has become known for its highly entertaining plays.

It's almost here.

Alida's drama troupe, Act One Productions, is in its final days of practicing for their upcoming production of William D. Fisher's 'Here Come the Brides.'

The play is presented in the evenings from Wednesday, March 9 to Saturday, March 12, with a matinee on Sunday, March 13.

Tickets have long sold out for the Friday and Saturday evening performances, but are still available for the dessert night March 9 and the cocktail night March 10. As for the Sunday matinee, they tend to make room for everyone, so if you can't make one of the evenings, plan to make it out March 13.

'Here Come the Brides,' is a three-act comedy, which is a typical choice for Act One Productions.

"It's about a guy who wants to get money from his rich uncle - but his uncle wants him to be married - so he's faking his wedding," explains Tim Cowan, who is involved with the play.

The cast size is larger than normal with four males and seven females, which Cowan said should serve them well.

"We always have a lot of females that like to act, so this might work out pretty good," said Cowan.

This is the 19th year the theatrical group has offered a play in Alida, so if you have yet to check out one of their impressive productions, now is the time.

Tickets are still available for: a dessert night on Wednesday, March 9 for $20; a cocktail night on Thursday, March 10 for $35; and a matinee on Sunday, March 13 for $10. There is a reduced price of $8 for kids 12-and-under to attend the matinee; pre-schoolers are free.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the dessert and cocktail nights, with the play starting at 8 p.m. For the Sunday matinee, doors open at 1 p.m., with the play starting at 2 p.m.

All seating for dessert and cocktail nights is reserved seating. Reservations can be taken by calling Centre Street Groceries in Alida at 443-2444.
