The regular meeting of Friends of Moose Mountain Lodge on March 24th went ahead without our President Bertha Isleifson who was in final rehearsals for the Cornerstone Dinner Theatre production happening this weekend. Vice President Marsha McLean kept us on track. There were eleven people present and we were most pleased to have Activity Director, Arial Andrychuk and Manager, Danielle Benjamin attend to help us out and provide feedback regarding what is possible and what is not.

Donations continue to come in so we are feeling confident that we will be able to meet some of our objectives and put into action some of the wonderful ideas that have been put forth. The really exciting aspect is that we have people who are willing to step up and take on organization of specific tasks and events. Things that need to be done are important for us because we believe they are important for the residents and our members are stepping into the leadership roles to see those things get completed. Also we have a good group of people who are willing to assist so when a call goes out for help – help arrives.

We are investigating possible improvements in the technology equipment so residents can have a wider variety of entertainment. Some of the old equipment no longer works properly. The lodge has received a donation of a shuffleboard table so we have decided to put our idea of floor curling on hold for awhile.

We had requested that Arial provide a list of what the Activity Department does that we could help with and/or contribute to. Her list was well discussed and we will be able to give some assistance. The last week of April will be Hawaiian Week so we are looking for any decorations that would contribute to this event. In fact decorations for any holiday or event would be most welcome if people are eliminating that sort of thing in their spring cleaning – just let us know!! Also we received a blanket invitation to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Tea at the Lodge on April 16th. Because all volunteers are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement to respect the privacy of the residents, those in attendance did that and we will get the others friends to sign it later.

Spring will bring about a concerted effort to get the patio area and back gardens whipped into shape so it will be a welcoming area for residents and families. We are going to count on the RBC staff and their community volunteer program to give us a hand with that after our committee has determined what needs to be done and how we can do it.

The March Birthday Party was sponsored by Friends of Moose Mountain Lodge with entertainment supplied by some excellent fiddlers – Michelle Amy, Morgan Robertson and the resident's favourite - staff member Bertha Isleifson. Toes were tapping everywhere. Ice cream, cup cakes and coffee/tea/juice were supplied and people spent an enjoyable time visiting.

There have been six more 'Welcome to your new Home' bouquets given out since last report and these are extremely popular with residents and families. The fresh fruit program has continued every two weeks to rave reviews.

Check out our Facebook page for what is coming up. We are also going to put up a bulletin board that will be dedicated to Friends of Moose Mountain Lodge information and activities. Be sure to look for it when you are at the Lodge,

Remember that cash donations are tax deductible by making the cheque payable to Town of Carlyle and putting Friends of Moose Mountain Lodge on the memo line. Donations of your time are most welcome so if you want to get on the list contact Bertha Isleifson at Moose Mountain Lodge. The residents love to visit so if you have a few minutes drop in and have a chat with one or more of them – it will make their day and yours as well.
