Don Larson, 'the fruit guy,' can help you find what you're looking for.

Don Larson has been coming to Carlyle every week between May and September for the last four years. He drives the fruit truck for Ferster Truckin' Inc. Happy and always willing to help, Larson enjoys his route, which takes him through Carlyle, Estevan, Weyburn, and Moose Jaw, immensely.

Having begun his travels the last week of April this year, Larson is excited about the great variety the truck carries. Everything from fruit and vegetables to honey, jerky, and salmon are carried in his load.

The honey comes from British Columbia, while the jerky is made at Martinsville, SK. Based out of Saskatoon Ferster's likes to buy Canadian whenever possible. Currently the majority of the fresh produce, however, is coming out of places like California. Once the Okanagan Valley begins harvesting fruit for the summer, in about June, they will focus on the BC products.

Ferster's focus is on "sourcing good quality products that people will enjoy." Larson stated.

Larson spoke fondly about how the fruit truck is almost like a family tradition. People who buy today can remember coming with their parents or even grandparents to the truck.

When asked about how you pick good fruit, Larson simply replied good heartedly by saying, "Just listen to your fruit guy."

He also stated that if the customers ask about samples, he is usually willing to give them one. It just depends what it is they hope to sample. May 15, saw him slicing off a piece of a California navel orange for those who stopped by the truck.

To catch the fruit truck just make sure to come to town on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The truck parks in the corner of Fields parking lot, which is on the east side of Main St.
