Flu vaccines available

Flu season is upon us once again and clinics will be held in the area to provide vaccinations. Everyone is encouraged to get a flu shot as they are available free of charge to all.

The following groups of people are strongly recommended to get the flu shot above the general public. Those who are 65-years-old and older, children between 6 months and 59 months, pregnant women, people with severe obesity, and residents of nursing homes or other care facilities. People, children and adults, who have a chronic health condition, are also encouraged to receive a vaccination.

There are also groups of people encouraged to protect themselves against the flu as they are in contact with the priority groups as listed above. This group of people includes household members or close contacts of those in the priority listing, members of a household expecting a newborn, people providing care to children 59 months and under, those who work with poultry and hogs, health science students, and essential community service workers. Those who work in the healthcare profession or volunteer in this field are also encouraged to receive a flu vaccine.

Vaccinations will be held in Carlyle at Community Services on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Nov. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and Nov. 20 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Arcola will have vaccine available at Golden West on Oct. 17 between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., as well as on Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Manor's flu vaccinations will be held at the Over 60 Club on Oct 16 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Kisbey will hold flu vaccinations at Silver Threads on Oct. 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Nov. 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Lampman will hold their flu vaccinations at the Prairie Lily Club on Oct 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as Oct. 31 between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Wawota clinics for flu vaccinations will be held at the Drop In Centre on Oct. 10 from 9:30 a.m. until noon, Oct. 23 between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and Nov. 6 from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. There will also be two sessions held at the Wawota Health Centre. The first session will be held on Nov. 28 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. and the second on Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Kennedy will hold two flu vaccination clinics at the Friendship Centre. One will be held on Oct. 17 from 9:30 a.m. until noon and the second on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Finally Kenosee Lake will host its flu vaccination clinics at the Four Seasons Drop In Centre. The first will be held on Oct. 15 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., while the second is on Nov. 1 between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
