Fillmore Lions holds auction, presents new award

The Fillmore and District Lions Club held their service auction on Saturday and presented the first-ever "Extraordinary Contribution Award".

WEYBURN – The Fillmore and District Lions Club held their service auction on Saturday.

Despite having a lower turnout due to inclement weather, the club still grossed their largest auction total of $68,316.

They had 54 live auction items, 74 silent auction items and the Dutch auction of a Traeger Smoker, which raised $8,000.

The high ticket item was a Canola Crush Premium for a total of $8,050, donated by Cargill.

Lion Tanner Hanson debuted as "Ring Master" in his first live auction. Tanner had the whole crowd laughing and engaged with his theatrical selling style.

New to the auction were three Club service awards: Robert Clay, 52 years of service; Marvin Chambers, 52 years of service; and Lynne Chambers, 13 years of service.

A unique item of interest was a wooden, hand-crafted "Excavator" made and donated by Winston Hall of Fillmore, which brought a whopping $1,700.

Also new was the presentation of the first "Extraordinary Contribution Award", given out at the Lions Auction.

Russ Leguee and Vickie Procyk were recognized for their contributions to Fillmore and the surrounding community.

A letter outlining why they were selected for the award stated, “We believe the scope and impact of their combined service is so great that similar contributions are unlikely in our lifetimes.”

“Accepting this honor was not easy for them, but we know they are both excited to honor other members of the community as future recipients,” said Paige Stewart, Lions Club member. “We hope to get the word out about this award so that we get lots of candidates for the 2025 nomination process.”

The Fillmore and Area Extraordinary Contribution Award was commissioned by the RM of Fillmore, Village of Fillmore, Leguee Farms and Four Mile Partnership.

The Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department managed the bar for the evening and provided designated drivers. Proceeds of the bar, net $2,000, were directed to the department.

The auction was also supported by the "33 Community Enhancement Commitee", which helps co-ordinate events across the communities of Osage, Fillmore and Creelman.
