ESTEVAN - It's been a busy Labour Day long weekend for members of the Estevan Police Service, as they dealt with 63 occurrences from Sept. 1-3.
Officers have made a couple of arrests for thefts. Police received a report of a theft from a local business. Members located the suspect, arrested the individual for theft under $5,000 and released the person with a future court date.
Police received a report of a theft of fuel from a local service station. The individual failed to return to pay for the fuel. The driver was charged with theft under $5,000.
Also during the weekend, the EPS attended to keep the peace during a tenant-landlord disagreement.
Police received a report of a break and enter in progress, along with trespassing and kidnapping. An investigation determined the occurrence was related to a child custody disagreement and the alleged offences had not occurred.
Police were called about a backyard firepit in which yard waste was burning and creating noxious smoke. Members spoke with the individuals and warned them of the bylaw. The fire was extinguished.
Members received a report of two vehicles racing in the central part of the city. Officers located one of the vehicles and spoke with the driver. The matter is under investigation.
Police received a report of a female receiving unwanted messages from a male. A statement was obtained and the matter is still being investigated.
A report came in of a suspicious male in the central part of the city. A statement was obtained and the matter is also under investigation.
Police received a report of a person driving away without paying for fuel. Members located the vehicle and the driver returned to the service station.
A noise complaint came in from the central part of the city. Members attended and spoke with the homeowner, who was warned under the noise bylaw and agreed to turn down the music.
Police were notified of a stolen vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was determined the vehicle had not been stolen, but that the owner had not given permission to the current driver. The keys were obtained for the vehicle and arrangements were made for the owner to collect them from police.
