ESTEVAN - An Estevan area businessman is going to be part of the STARS Rescue on the Prairie fundraiser on Thursday.

Ryan Saxon was born and raised in the Estevan area.

According to his bio on the Rescue on the Prairies website, He started working at the family business, Border Insulators, at age 16, and worked his way up the ladder to his current position of president. He has 25 years experience as an insulator and builder.

In 2012, he started a tank manufacturing company called R&R Tank and Equipment Rentals.

In 2015, Saxon started Saxon Farms and started farming. He currently is farming 6,000 acres of land in the southeast area of Saskatchewan.

Saxon is a big supporter of STARS, the community he lives and works in, local sports teams, families in need, and St. Joseph’s Hospital.

He and his wife, Nyla, have been together for 21 years. They have one daughter, Kianna, 23, and three boys, Dexter (15), Ty (13) and Cash (11), and one bulldog, Jake.

Ryan and Nyla also have Saxon Racing, where all three boys have been racing for the past four years at the local racetrack.

As of Wednesday afternoon, he had raised $48,222 of his $50,000 goal.

You can visit to donate to Saxon.

Rescue on the Prairie presented by Western Sales will see Saxon and three other individuals endeavour to raise at least $50,000 by the end of the day on Thursday. They will be transported to a remote location with only their smartphone in hand to help them succeed.

Participants can fundraise in advance.

Rescue on the Prairie is the flagship fundraising event for STARS in Saskatchewan and with the generous support of colleagues, businesses, friends and family, participants have helped to raise more than $2 million dollars for STARS in the province.

Each participant is required to raise $50,000 or more in support of STARS. Participants are only rescued once they have reached or exceeded that goal.  The participants are equipped with a cell phone and have access to friends and family for moral support in the form of donations.

A group of brave community leaders will trade in their business attire for flight suits, and climb onboard the STARS helicopter for the unique mission.

The intrepid participants will undertake a variety of challenges in the Prairies to help secure their escape.
