A high-speed chase that began and ended in Estevan, with a trip to Benson sandwiched in between, was among the highlights of the past week for the members of the Estevan Police Service.
On June 10, a 28-year-old male was charged with impaired driving and while over .08 after police stopped him because of his driving actions. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance July 22.
An 18-year-old female faces a number of charges after an incident June 11. The woman was charged with obstructing a police officer, escaping lawful custody and having open liquor in a public place after a foot chase that began in the parking lot of a local nightclub. She was also lodged in cells for the night.
On the same evening, EPS members became involved in a high-speed chase after trying to stop a vehicle driving erratically near the Souris Valley Aquatic and Leisure Centre. The chase took officers all the way to Benson and back to Estevan, reaching speeds of up to 160 kilometres an hour along the way.
The pursuit finally ended when the driver struck the southwest corner of a house at Fourth Street and Eighth Avenue. Two suspects then fled the vehicle and were not apprehended as EPS members were unable to conduct an efficient search since they no longer have a tracking dog available to them.
The vehicle in question was unregistered and it?s believed the suspects have outstanding warrants. Alcohol and drugs may also have been a factor in the pursuit.
An assault charge also led to police attention on the same evening. A 28-year-old, who is said to be well known to police, was arrested and charged with five Criminal Code offences after a 911 call was received of an assault that had taken place at Willow Park Greens.
He was remanded into custody for a show-cause hearing Monday in provincial court. The individual had also been charged with assault causing bodily harm April 16 in Bienfait but was released from custody May 3 by the court.
On June 13, a 21-year-old male was charged with willful damage after he smashed a truck window in the parking lot at 530 Bannantyne Avenue. That same night, a 20-year-old male was arrested and lodged for public intoxication.
