Enbridge Pipelines Inc. is proud to support the Wawota Fire Department with a donation of $7,500 through the Enbridge Safe Community Program. The funds will help purchase new emergency equipment including a GPS unit, and new sets of turn out gear for the fire department volunteers. The cheque will be presented to Fire Chief Norman Oliver on Thursday morning.

"We are pleased to support the first responder organizations like the Wawota Fire Department that help keep our communities safe," said Lyle Meena, General Manager, Enbridge Central Region. "The new equipment will better prepare local first responders for emergency situations."

To date, Enbridge has donated more than $20,000 to Wawota first responders. Enbridge's highest priority is the safety of the people who live and work in the communities where it operates.

"The Safe Community Program is a way for Enbridge to recognize the important contributions of first responders in right-of-way communities," said Meena.

The Enbridge Safe Community Program, now in its fourth year, provides financial support to firefighters, police departments and other first responders so they can acquire new safety equipment, obtain professional training or deliver educational programs. During its first three years, the Safe Community Program has provided funding to emergency first responders throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Northwest Territories.
