Enbridge gathered the community in the optometrist parking lot to raise money for United Way.

The employees of Enbridge got together for a cause on Friday, Sept.14th. The company as a whole found it vital that money being raised from their community smokies sale be donated to United Way. Enbridge has always run on a high values system therefore they have spent the past 10 years involved in United Way fundraising. It is outlined in Enbridge's vision statement that the community in which they operate is to be one of their top priorities. The barbeque lunch began at 11:30 a.m. and ran through 1:30 p.m.in front of the Optometrist office on Main Street. Burgers or smokies, with a side of salads, chips and drinks were available for eight dollars. The food was a huge hit, with the delicious smell drawing in customers from blocks away.In 2010, Enbridge invested$11.5 million in charitable, non-profit and community organizations, benefiting more than 350 organizations in Canada and the U.S.United Way/Centraide originally began in 1917 and has been known by many names since, including Community Chest, United Appeal and Red Feather. Today there are over 100 United Way offices in the country, each one part of the non-profit organization, and is run by a Board of volunteers. The Foundation works together with communities around the country with a common goal of improving lives and building community by engaging individuals and finding ways to resolve issues as a group. The most recent areas of focus have been moving people out of poverty, improving access to social and health-related support services and helping children succeed in school. Saskatchewan is home to nine of their own United Way offices and has stuck true to the original vision. The closest offices to Carlyle are located in Weyburn and Estevan but no one in Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Saskatchewan is forgotten. The Estevan branch will be hosting their 36th annual telethon on Oct. 12 and 13, with the Weyburn and District branch always looking for volunteers for their Communithon. You can also book the mascots, Captain United and Lady Charity to participate in your United Way special event.Enbridge staff and the community raised a total of $850 for the charity. All proceeds from the Enbridge BBQ will come back to the community. Due to not having an official Carlyle branch of United Way, Enbridge will simply follow United Ways vision of putting the money into community necessities.
