ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Police Service had a busy day on Wednesday, as they were called to a fire, a couple of collisions and more.

Police, Estevan EMS and the Estevan Fire Rescue Service attended to a residence in the 600-block of King Street as a passerby noted heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence. All occupants had vacated the residence prior to emergency services arriving, and the EPS said no injuries were reported.

Also on Wednesday, police received a report of a motor vehicle collision in which one of the parties was refusing to identify themselves, as they didn’t see any damage from the incident. Police attended and obtained the information required from the individual. Police remind the public that you must exchange information with the other driver if you have a collision, even if there appears to be no damage or injuries, as those circumstances may change.

Police attended to another collision in which there was just damage to the vehicles. One of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Officers received a report of a suspicious person sleeping in a vehicle in the Hillcrest area. Police were unable to attend initially as they were on another priority call. When police attended, the vehicle was gone. Police located the vehicle a short time later at a different site. The driver was identified and no further action was required.

Police attended to a report of an individual smashing a vehicle. Police attended and determined that the vehicle belonged to the individual.

Members were asked by a counsellor to do a welfare check on an Estevan female. Officers and the police and crisis team attended and put the individual in contact with their counsellor.

Police received a report of a possible scam. The individual was attempting to get a job and paid money to the potential employer, with the understanding it would be paid back when the job was complete. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers received a report of a suspicious person in the Hillcrest area. The individual was elderly and looked lost.  Police attended the area and were unable to locate the individual.

Police were notified of a mail scam in which a letter was sent soliciting money. No information was exchanged nor was money sent.

Members conducted a curfew check on a 29-year-old woman from Estevan as she was on probation containing a curfew clause. She failed to present herself to the door and charges are now pending.
