This past week, the Dickens Committee hosted a successful thrift sale in the Carlyle Memorial Hall.
The Observer spoke with eight-year veteran Sandra Dyer upon completion of the event.
“Despite not having a thrift sale since October 2019, we ran a very successful four-day fundraiser. It takes a lot of manpower to put on this event and I wish to thank the 30 or so volunteers that helped. A number of factors contributed to the slight decrease of attendance from previous years.
“The museum board decided it was in their best interest not to proceed with their noon lunch and the new COVID restrictions that went into effect October 1st were also a deterrent.
Co-chairperson Dolores Young was also pleased with the results.
“We had a great sale and I also wish to thank all volunteers that manned the front desk and took in the proceeds and also all floor volunteers. Many hands made for light work.”
Proceeds from the Dickens Thrift Sale go towards the advertising and promotion of the Dickens Village Festival, held annually in Carlyle the first weekend in December. At this time it is not known whether the event will take place on Dec. 3 or 4, but it has been announced that the Cornerstone Theatre Group is having a production that weekend.
