Dianne Twietmeyer will represent the NDP in the Cannington constituency in the upcoming provincial election.
Twietmeyer, originally from Australia, moved to Saskatchewan with her husband who was raised on a farm south of Oxbow, about 45 years ago.
Twietmeyer has been an active member of her community by being on many boards in the jurisdiction of Cannington, teaching at numerous schools, owing a small business, being part of a rock band called Downwind in Oxbow and raising her two children in the community as well.
When asked about the NDP platform, the response was, 鈥淲e are building a platform that puts people first. Some of the things that will be included in it will be health care when and where you need it, a Saskatchewan First Plan to build an economy that keeps people working and that works for people, support for schools and kids that give them the best chance in life and clean energy that creates good jobs, lowers utility bills and builds a strong future."
Twietmeyer also went on to say: 鈥淣ot everyone here in Cannington comes from money, there are the ones who fall through the cracks.鈥
She added that she wants to be the voice for those people and she wants them to know that there are other choices out there when it comes to voting than the ones they may think they have to choose.
Though Twietmeyer had a late start in the running, she plans on persevering none the less.
鈥淚 am going to have to work very hard to get the message out, talk to as many people as possible and use social media as well and hopefully get the NDP message to the people who need to hear it so people know there is not just one way to vote in Cannington,鈥 she said.
Twietmeyer closed with this statement. 鈥淭he new candidate for the Sask party, Daryl Harrison, is no doubt a very good person who has the community in mind, but it鈥檚 time for people in this riding to just stop giving the right of free pass. This candidate, just like anyone else has to prove himself and the people can show that they are dissatisfied with the status quo, that there are people that live here who don't get what they need from government, and that they don't have to vote Sask. party just because that's the way it鈥檚 always been done, its time to look at what someone else can offer you.鈥
