MOOSOMIN — “Politics has always been something I’ve been interested in,” said Devin Nosterud when asked about what inspired him to run in the Moosomin town council race. “I ran a business in Moosomin for 12 years, and it was one of those things where you don’t really get into politics when you’re in business because that could affect it.”
With Nosterud being the third generation of his family to live in Moosomin, his goal is to ensure that the community he loves is still around when his children want to establish roots.
“My grandparents moved to Moosomin in the ‘60s,” he said. “My dad left, came back, and raised me in Moosomin. Then I left, and came back with my wife and raised my family in Moosomin.”
Ensuring strong infrastructure is an important priority for Nosterud.
“What I would like to focus on is infrastructure, because I’m a journeyman plumber, I’ve worked with the town guys before when I had the business, and I want to continue on that,” he said. “I think that I could really bring a lot of knowledge to the table and help out. The infrastructure is at that age where it needs to be upgraded, and so far, from what I understand, the town council is doing a great job. I just think that I can really help with that being my trade, and the fact that I have a rapport with a lot of the town crew. I used to work with them when I had my business, so there’s already that, too.”
Nosterud has also done service work through Kinsman and Kinettes— groups that he said he watched his parents and grandparents take part in.
“Now me and my wife are both part of the clubs also, so Kinsman and Kinettes has always been a very big part of our lives,” he said. Nosterud has also been involved with the Mooseberry Acting Company and Creative Visions Productions. “We’re constantly helping out.”
The Nosteruds have also learned firsthand how supportive the community can be, with the community rallying around them when their son, Lenox, was diagnosed with Leukemia.
“Moosomin really came to bat for us, they had a GoFundMe, and we had huge support from the town,” Nosterud said. “And again, that’s one of the things that we really try and do is now give back that same support that we received from Moosomin, which was just amazing. When there’s people that have problems, the town comes together in ways that you don’t see in any other place.”
