Daryl Harrison won the contested nomination in Cannington to become the Saskatchewan Party鈥檚 candidate in that constituency for the 2020 provincial election.
Harrison, who resides in the Alida area, won a nomination meeting Thursday night at Prairie Place Hall in Arcola.
鈥淚t is an honour to stand before you tonight as your Saskatchewan Party nominated candidate for 2020.鈥 Harrison said, 鈥淚鈥檝e lived and worked in this constituency my entire life and I鈥檓 ready to stand up for and give back to the people of this area.鈥
Marilyn Simons of Alameda and Winston van Staveren from Creelman were also seeking the nomination.
Harrison has been working in the oil industry for over 30 years in various capacities, including his current role as account manager with Baker Hughes General Electric. In addition, he is a councillor for the local rural municipality, the director for Zone 1 of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers鈥 Association, a member of the area Lions Club, a volunteer firefighter and a cattle rancher.
Previously he has been a school division trustee for the Souris-Moose Mountain and the 麻豆视频 East Cornerstone Public School Divisions.
When asked, Harrison said his motivation for running is to provide a strong voice for rural Saskatchewan and stand up for the oil industry.
鈥淥il and agriculture are two of the main industries in the southeast corner of this constituency,鈥 Harrison stated, 鈥淭he Saskatchewan Party government has made it clear that they are in favor of building the necessary pipelines.
鈥淧remier (Scott) Moe has been a true leader and advocate for Saskatchewan by not backing down against the harmful policies, such as bill C-69 in its current form, of our federal government. I鈥檓 ready to stand alongside him.鈥
Dan D鈥橝utremont, the incumbent Sask. Party MLA for Cannington, has announced he will retire at the end of the current term.
