The Estevan Police Service and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment have issued a public alert after three cougars were spotted in the city.

According to a press release issued Thursday afternoon, one adult cougar and two young cougars were spotted along the valley edge on the north side of the Bay Meadows subdivision. Both local police and local conservation officers believe the reports are credible.

Both agencies are advising the public to be aware of the sightings and to take precautions if they are in the area. They are also asking parents to keep their children away from the area in question.

Officers are currently attempting to determine if the cougars were just passing through or are still in the area. Anyone who has already seen one of the cougars or comes across them in the future are asked to call the Estevan Police Service at 634-4767, the local Ministry of Environment office at 637-4600 or Jeanette Krayetski with Sask. Environment at 306-953-2691.
