Cougar corner – virtual author visit

The Grade 7-10 students were so lucky to participate in an online encounter with Cecil Castellucci. She is an award winning, New York Times best-selling author of books and graphic novels for young adults.

Her motivational and inspirational talk entertained and informed students about what it’s like to be an author. She shared anecdotes and perspectives on life as an author of science fiction and the current writer for DC’s Batgirl comic series. The students interacted with comments and many questions about her novels, her inspirations, her life experiences, the short story she has sold to John Krasinski to be developed into a movie, and what it’s like being a science fiction author.

Thanks to Mrs. Rutten for arranging Cecil’s virtual visit. Also, thanks so much to Joan Bue, LENS 鶹Ƶeast, and Canadian Children’s Book Week for making it possible.

Students have been participating in a cohort competition that started last week. So far it has involved many fun activities including a classroom scavenger hunt, nature trivia quiz, mascot making, rock painting, and many other socially distanced cohort participation activities.

A new reporting system is being used this year, Edsby. Its purpose is to improve electronic communication between school and home. When your child is unable to attend for any reason, please call or email the office or put in an absence through the Edsby app. Contact the school if you haven’t received your password or are having problems logging onto the system.

Remember, if you ever have questions or concerns to discuss with your child’s particular teachers, please email the teacher or contact the school.

All your school information can be found on the GF Kells website on the 鶹Ƶeast Cornerstone School Division website under the “schools” tab.
