WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn announced recent acts of vandalism have disrupted the progress of a vital community project at the intersection of 16th Street and First Avenue. NE.
The incidents occurred on various dates and have included extensive barricade damage, stolen signs and removal of metal stakes for the concrete phase.
“These senseless acts cause financial setbacks and project delays,” said Jennifer Wilkinson, Director of Engineering.
“When things like this happen, it’s disheartening and frustrating for everyone involved.”
The affected project was nearing its final stages, and contractors had been working diligently to ensure timely completion.
The vandalism has caused additional resources and time to repair and replace the damaged components, causing delays in the project’s overall timeline.
Additionally, the metal stakes were meticulously placed for concrete formwork, each one surveyed to its specific location.
City officials have reported these incidents to the Weyburn Police Service (WPS) who are actively investigating the matter. Anyone with information related to this incident should contact WPS at (306) 848-3250.
“It is disappointing to see that a few individuals have chosen to disrupt projects in this way,” said Mayor Marcel Roy. “We ask everyone to respect public property and projects by our City meant to benefit the community.”
