On Thursday Nov. 14 representatives from the Carlyle branch of RBC presented a cheque of $4000 to the Cornerstone Family and Youth program (CFY) at the Carlyle Library.
The $4000 is a donation to CFY's Girl's Circle program and other school age and youth initiatives that intended to improve mental health and the quality of life children in the area. CFY, a non-profit and charitable organization has long been known to provide Carlyle and neighboring communities with positive educational and recreational programs for children. And Jenn Sedor, school ageyouth coordinator at CFY described the donation as awesome.
"We absolutely appreciate every penny," she said.
Linda Reddick, CSR Account manager at RBC presented the cheque to Sedor, during one of their sessions. After the presentation Reddick explained that RBC is really geared towards sponsoring youth groups. To date RBC has given more than $30 million in donations to programs that provide safe environments for children to go after school to develop social skills, knowledge and self-esteem.
"The youth 'they're our future right' so we're really proud to help out with those organizations and I think what they do here is really important to our future generation. So I'm really happy Royal Bank does support it and gives them a donation," she said.
The Girl's Circle which is a main stay of the donation is a six week awareness program for girls in Grades 5-6 at the Carlyle Elementary School.The program focuses on building relationships, self esteem and self worth engaginggirls in various team building activities. The program also seeks to explore their inner feelings through art, drama, music and other activities. Girl's Circle runs from Nov 6th - Dec 18th and again in 2014 from Feb 12th - March 19th which comes at no cost to parents. Vanessa Kirkpatrick, an accounts manager as well was the other RBC representative on hand to make the presentations and gave her thoughts on the program.
"I think it's a really good organization and program that we have and I hope that it continues for generations to come," she said.
"Royal Bank likes to give back to our community and I feel this is a way that we're able to do that and keep it going."
CFY also involves young adults and families within certain programs as well such as "The Parent Hour" program that involves parents building on their parenting skills.
