Carlyle's Gordon F. Kells High School welcomes new staff members

Carlyle's Gordon F. Kells High School is not only welcoming new and returning students back to school, but four new faculty members as well.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Carlyle's Gordon F. Kells High School is not only welcoming new and returning students back to school, but four new faculty members as well.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Teachers Brittany Smoliak, Steven Treso, Morgan Wasylyk and Colin Wilson joined fellow staff members and 205 students from grades seven to 12 on Monday, Sept. 1 for the first day of classes.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Principal Maurice Saltel says, 鈥淲e're pretty excited about the dramatic increase in the school's student population this year, and we're also pretty excited about welcoming all of our new teachers this year.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 They are: Brittany Smoliak, who is teaching English and a health class for students in grades 7, 8, 9 and10; Steven Treso who is teaching science, covering for Mrs. Rae Nicol until Christmas; Morgan Wasylyk, who is teaching middle years ELA and Colin Wilson, who is teaching phy-sed.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Smoliak, who grew up in Grayson, Sask., has taught in the northern communities of Sandy Bay and Fond du Lac as well as Regina's Luther college. Married to RCMP member, Jeff Smoliak and the mother of two young daughters, she says, 鈥淚'm excited to work with the students and staff at GFK. I'll be involved with girls' volleyball this year, coaching with Jaida Schutz, so I'm excited about that, too.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Treso is a retired vice-principal and teacher who has taught 鈥渁 lot of different courses鈥 during his career. The Redvers resident has worked extensively as a substitute throughout the area since he retired from full-time teaching, and says he is looking forward to his time at GFK, saying, 鈥淓veryone here has been great. I'm really looking forward to the months ahead.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In addition to her teaching duties, Wasylyk will also be coaching boys' volleyball at the school.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 New phys-ed teacher Colin Wilson left his position in Carnduff to join the staff at GFK. 鈥淚 grew up here and I'm happy to be home and happy to be teaching in the community I live in.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭his is going to be an excellent year at GFK,鈥 says Saltel. 鈥淎 great year.鈥
