November 6th saw town council come together for their bimonthly meeting.
Golf cart crossing signs
The golf course signs which had been approved previously warning motorists of golf carts crossing at 4th street over the Hwy 13. After receiving unclear information from the Department of Highways earlier the council finally received information stating the signs are not recommended. Highways felt as though the signs would give golf cart drivers a false sense of security in crossing the highway, which is not what the sign would be intended for. After pondering over the recommendation town council decided they would not put up the signs. The signs would not give rights to golf carts crossing Hwy 13, but if put up would this misunderstanding or false security could create numerous accidents which the town thought would undermine the reasons for putting up the signs.
RCMP report
RCMP Staff Sergeant Tom Vanderzwan attended the meeting to provide a report of the Carlyle Detachment. Vanderzwan explained that the detachment is focused on issuing more tickets in the area. He knows they won't catch everyone, but if they are able to catch as many as possible to try and prevent people from speeding and other traffic infractions.
A cadet will be coming to fill in the final position at the Carlyle detachment mid-December or January.
Remembrance Day
Council member Jenn Sedor agreed to attend the school Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 8 to lay a wreath.
Mayor Don Shirley explained he would attend the Remembrance Day ceremony the Legion had planned for Monday, Nov. 11. While at the ceremony he would lay a wreath on behalf of the town.
Red Coat Mutual Aid
A Red Coat Mutual Aid update was given. Redvers will be getting a new fire truck this year, while the Carlyle Fire Department will be receiving new tools. The last time Red Coat Mutual Aid bought a truck and tools, the truck was given to Carlyle and the tools to Redvers.
Library renovations
The library will be working on renovations soon. The library received money through various donations and grants which will allow them to begin work. The patio area will be finished in the spring, while the children's site will also be completed soon. New flooring will be installed after Christmas, while new shelving will later be established within the library.
Traffic volume on Hwy 13
A traffic volume map was created and Hwy 13 qualifies for passing lanes, however there are highways with higher counts which are more of a priority, so the area may not see this change.
Request to access airstrip
An individual whose land borders the airstrip asked the town for permission to access this area from his yard. Permission from the town was granted so long as all regulations are met with Transport Canada and the Airport Commission also grants permission.
Sponsorship of local recreational facilities
The town was asked to advertise in the Carlyle Sports Arena as a board sponsor. Other councillors brought up the want to remain neutral amongst different organizations, thus the town has decided to look into sponsoring the Sports Arena, Curling Rink, and Crescent Point Leisure Complex.
