This has been a difficult time for Royal Canadian Legion in Canada with the inability of branches to meet and hold activities. Some branches have been forced to close.Ìý
The Carlyle branch has been able to continue despite being unable to hold meetings and have our regular renters.Ìý
November of this year is the 75th anniversary of our legion’s charter. We are planning to purchase a bench commemorating this and hope to put it near the cenotaph. We have always had an active branch and hope it will continue.Ìý
Golf is still going on with the provincial tournament being held in Melville at the end of this month. Some members are planning to resume playing darts. We are still waiting for word on legion curling.Ìý
This year we will be unable to hold our traditional Remembrance Day service due to COVID-19. The service from Ottawa will be shown and people will be able to follow it. More information on this will be coming as we receive it.Ìý
The poppy campaign will go forward, much as it has in the past. The information on the poster and literary contests are on-line for the schools and we hope the teachers will be able to take advantage of it.ÌýÌýPosters and essays are due in earlier than usual. They will be picked up on Nov. 2.ÌýÌýÌý
We hope that the students and teachers will take part this year as this is such an important part of our history.Ìý
We extendÌýcongratulationsÌýto Comrades John Voutour and Stephen Boyko on each receiving a Quilt of Valor. These are given to veterans as a thank you for their service to our country. If you know of a veteran who served in the military, let someone in the legion know so that they can arrange for that veteran to receive a quilt.Ìý
