Young people in the Carlyle region are a step closer to completing a unique new outdoor learning space - thanks in part to a $2,000 grant from the Access Communications Children's Fund.
"At Access, we believe that it's not enough to be in a community - we want to be part of it," Children's Fund Chair Doug Alexander said. "When completed, the Small Lot of H.O.P.E. project will provide countless opportunities for area children to learn first-hand the values of stewardship, volunteerism and community - and we are delighted to lend a hand."
"One small lot of H.O.P.E." is an area outside of Carlyle Elementary school that once was an ugly unused space. Now, through the vision of students and staff, it is a natural outside space where learning can take place (an outside classroom). The application of belonging, showing kindness, being responsible and respectful will be lived out and applies to the project by all working together and contributing. Students take ownership of organizing, planning and implementing the project.
"I can see a lot of work and thought went into the development of the Small Lot of H.O.P.E. It gives me great pleasure to be able to present this cheque on behalf of the Access Communications Childrens Fund to continue to build on the success of the project." Regional Manager, Wendy Hoffart said.
The Access Communications Children's Fund Inc. is a registered charity that contributes funds and support to youth-based, not-for-profit organizations and charities in the many communities served by Access Communications Co-operative.
