Last Wednesday was the School Community Council (SCC) Annual General Meeting, followed by the Elementary School's Open House. Both the SCC meeting and the Open House were well attended. It was great to see so many interested parents. The new SCC for the 2012-2013 year is: Pam Kresowaty, Danielle Benjamin, Paulette Guider, Roland Bouchard, Jolyn Schultz, Karen Fischer, Desirae Galbraith, Tracey Rae and Anita Delalleau. Thank you to the new members for joining the team! A special thank you to Tammie Riddell, Tanya Robertson, Richelle McAuley and Charlene Chapman who have been a key part of our council for the past few years!

The past two weeks, from October 1st to October 12th, the students have been bringing non-perishable food items to school for the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign. All the food collected will be donated to the local food bank. Thank you for all your donations, it will mean a lot to those who need it!

Grade 5 and 6 boys and girls volleyball is well underway. The girls have 2 games planned, October 18th in Carlyle against Wawota, and October 29th in Wawota. Check the school website's monthly calendar for practice and game times (www.cornerstonesd.ca).

Twenty two students took part in the Division Cross Country meet in Carnduff on October 3rd. They had been practicing three days a week and were definitely ready for the meet. All of the students had a great run and represented our school well. The students that finished in the top 10 in their age category were: Grade 3 Girls - Trystan Barta 3rd, Madison Magotiaux 7th; Grade 3 Boys - Logan Romaniuk 7th; Grade 4 Girls - Kyla Fischer 7th, Taris Rae 8th; Grade 4 Boys - Adrien Riddell 2nd; Grade 5 Girls - Alexis Lachappelle 7th.

Noon hour football has also just begun. The teams and a schedule have been posted at the front office of the school, and also on the school website under "programs and activities". Students will want to make sure they have a lunch at school on the days that their team plays.

For Halloween, Wednesday, October 31st, students are welcome to wear orange and black for the day. They can also bring a costume to change into after lunch for the afternoon if they would like. Parents are asked not to send candy for the students to share as teachers will not be handing out non-healthy food items. You are welcome to send a healthy snack, or non-food item to share. If you have any questions about this, please call the school at 453-2393.
