Carlyle Town Council met on Wednesday, March 12, for their bimonthly meeting to discuss a number of topics concerning the town. Though taxes had originally been on the agenda, new councillor Martin Tourand was unable to attend the meeting and the other councillors decided to wait until the next meeting to discuss this topic altogether.
Ted Brady Municipal Airport
Town has approved signage to be designed for the airport as it has been named the Ted Brady Municipal Airport as a tribute to Brady who was integral in this venture. As Brady was a member of SUMA and FCM the council has decided to approach these organizations to see if they would be interested in donating towards the sign.
Need of volunteer fire fighters
Darcy Moore reported that the fire department is in need of more fire fighters and are encouraging anyone interested to come forward.
Service Excellence Program Assessment
Councillor Jenn Sedor explained that the assessment regarding recreation in Carlyle had been completed, but that the results have not yet been released. However, upon Sedor's initial impressions of the assessment there is a need in the community to have different recreational groups develop a better rapport and increase communication.
Though the assessment has not been released, an idea to help this issue would be a quarterly meeting where each group could give a short report on their year, while this would also provide a venue for short training sessions to be introduced including how to perform risk assessments.
Town wide garage sale
Council approved a town wide garage sale on May 17.
Dutch Elm Disease
The approval of negotiating a contract with Biotechnologies for the coming year was confirmed. Biotechnologies will inspect trees in Carlyle for Dutch Elm Disease.
Clara's Big Ride
On June 11, Rusty Relics Museum will hold its annual opening barbeque at noon, while also welcoming Clara Hughes that day at 3 p.m. The town encourages anyone available to attend the event.
Museum update
Rusty Relics received funding from the Bear Claw Community Development Corp. The $2,000 given to the museum will be put towards shingling the bunk house and the storage shed.
