The Carlyle and District Leisure Complex has received a generous donation from CanElson Drilling. The cheque of $25,000 was presented to the Volunteer Board of the Carlyle Pool, including Mel Pauls, Danielle Benjamin, Mandy Irwin, Pam Brown, and Natalie Miller, by Randy Hawkings, the President and CEO of CanElson, and Mike Smith, the General Manager and Vice President of CanElson.
The swimming pool had difficulties earlier in the summer due to a variety of repairs, which were needed to get the pool running. These repairs took longer than foreseen and caused a setback in opening when the volunteer board had hoped.
These repairs are now almost completed. There are a few finishing touches to be done in the fall by a different contracting company. Currently the pool is running smoothly and is a great way to cool down on a hot day.
The money previously raised and the donation by CanElson on Aug. 1, brings the swimming pool closer to their goal in raising money for an expansion of the pool. The expansion that is hoped for will be the addition of a zero entry next year. This would be like a beach entry where swimmers will be able to gradually walk into the water, a feature making the pool more accessible.
They are close to their goal for this expansion, but not quite there. The volunteer board encourages everyone who is interested in golfing to join their Sink or Swim Tournament on Aug. 11. There will also be a supper provided by David and Shelley Slykhuis at Lions Park. This tournament has been one of the major fundraisers for the Carlyle and District Leisure Complex and they hope for a good turnout.
