Carlyle has been Jared Riddell's hometown since 1973.
Riddell is a husband and father of four, also a local business owner and an active member of the community.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to return to my hometown in 2007 to raise our family and become involved with various committees and boards. I enjoy time with family and friends year-round at the cabin, boating, golfing, travelling and expanding my knowledge as a private pilot.â€
Riddell has decided to run for town council as his family has always been active members of the council.
“I look up to people who commit time to help improve the quality of life in a small town. I now feel it is time for me to get involved at a municipal level, using the knowledge gained from serving on numerous boards, raising an active family, operating a business and experiences gained while working abroad.â€
“Carlyle still has many opportunities for employment, it is a great place to raise a family, start a new business and retire in comfort, but there is always a need for continual improvement. I anticipate that the economy in our area could remain weak for some time and this is a chance for me to serve in a capacity where I can have an impact on community planning while maintaining the financial integrity of our town for future generations.â€
Some things Riddell wishes to see accomplished are to finds ways to attract new and different businesses, support existing businesses and to maintain town services, facilities and infrastructures.
“Other priorities I would like to support would be creative tax incentives, proper land use and development, a new K-12 (kindergarten to Grade 12) school plan, new daycare, bylaw awareness, emergency preparedness, sporting activities, expand parks, culture and recreational opportunities.â€
“I admire anyone who has served time on council and I am fully aware of the challenges they face. I believe the past four years have been managed very well despite global downturns and adhering to the rules imposed as a result of COVID-19.â€
Though Riddell has no past experience in politics, he claims he is fully prepared for it.
