Local ice rinks have and always will be part of the foundation that holds a community together. Small town rinks are no exception but to keep these facilities running for the youth of today, well, it takes a village, quite literally.
The Oxbow Skating Rink is looking for some help to keep the facilities and the dreams of the community alive. They have come up with a fundraiser called Buy a Chair. What this fundraiser is offering is for individuals to purchase one of the chairs in the rink lobby.Â
Once purchased, a plaque will be placed on the chair to recognize the contribution from the individual who purchased it. The purchase of the chair can be for yourself, a family member or in honour of a loved one. The onetime fee covers the lifetime of the chair.
Rachelle Kitz, a member of the committee, states: “Two years ago it was decided to make an offering to the community that would allow people to 'purchase a chair' in the form of a plaque that is attached to the back of the chair. These can be in many formats: one name, family name, in honour of, in memory of, a business name, etc. – the options are endless. We sold around half of the available chairs at that point.â€
Now in 2020 the curling club of Oxbow has decided to bring the fundraiser back and try to sell the remaining chairs. The money that is contributed to this cause goes to the entire facility, which in this case, it is much needed.
A study was conducted this year on the curling rink side of things by The Oxbow and District Rec Board. This study stated that the club needs to come up with $17,500 to help offset the expenses of the curling rink ice.
If you would like to contribute to this great cause to help keep the dreams flowing for this small town rink, you may make a one-time payment either via cheque made payable to the Oxbow Rink Committee or via e-transfer. The Oxbow Curling Club also has around 10 spots available for business advertising if there is anyone that would be interested in advertising in Oxbow.
