With 37 members presently in the Carlyle Lions Club, it has been a great year to get things done.

“COVID has not been all bad,” said Ron Paul. “We have had many members contribute to the work being done since we have had the time.”

The Lions Club was able to refresh the bleachers at the diamonds, both the wooden benches and the metal frames and well as all the backstops. The bathrooms are now tied into the town sewer lines. Swells were made to drain the water at the west end of diamond 4 and by the road northwest of diamond 3, so that the water will no longer pool in these areas.

A special thanks to The Rental Centre for the use of their trackhoe.

The bathrooms and installation of swells were done by Duncan Brown, Larry Brady, Wayne Wilson, Dennis Feduk and Paul, but when interviewed, Paul was insistent that he could never name all the men and women (even non Lions members) who had helped out this year. The women in the club were instrumental with all the cleaning and painting again this year.

Paul went on to express his gratitude to the senior ball team members who completed the yellow capping on diamond 1. Scott Nicholson, Danny Rasmussen, Talen King and Brent McLean were the four young men he witnessed working last Saturday to get the much-needed job done.

Carlyle Lions Club members, along with many other community and non-profit organizations, are searching for good fundraising methods since things like their Community Supper and Auction cannot happen due to COVID restrictions.

“All of the proceeds from that supper and auction go directly back into the community so it is too bad we cannot do that this year,” said Jean Ebbes, a long-time Lions member. The club is also always looking to add new members to their group, whose mission is “We Serve.” Historically, the Lions met on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, with the 3rd Tuesday being their supper meeting. Right now, they only meet the first Tuesday at the Happy Gang Centre at 7 p.m.
