Bear spray incident in Regina leads to arrest

Accused is alleged to have sprayed officers with bear spray that he pulled from his waistband.

Regina police were victims in the latest bear spray incident reported in the city.

REGINA — Regina Police Service is reporting that a 31-year-old man is facing weapons charges following a bear spray incident Tuesday, 

They report that on Aug, 16 at about 2:30 a.m. police officer saw three men walking on Saskatchewan Drive, one of whom carried a baseball bat. When they stopped to talk with the men, they noticed one had an open can of beer with him. He identified himself with a false name and when confronted, the man ran away. It has been alleged he sprayed officers with bear spray that he pulled from his waistband. 

Police report he was taken into custody without further incident and charged with the following: two counts of possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon, identity fraud, resisting arrest and two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.

His first appearance in provincial court on these charges was Tuesday afternoon.
