The Bear Claw Casino Volunteer Program hosted a BBQ Fundraiser and Bake Sale on Tuesday, June 9, between 4 and 6 p.m. During this event employees of the Bear Claw enjoyed a fun ride as they jumped on a 30 seat bike to tour Carlyle and raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The Bear Claw’s efforts saw $926.75 raised for the Foundation, which focuses on research and health programs that will help to prevent heart disease and strokes. They promote healthy living and therefore invest in research to also improve treatments for people who have suffered or suffer from heart disease or strokes.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Many young kids were waiting on Main Street for the Big Bike to go by and weren’t disappointed as excitement filled their eyes when the bike came into view. As the Bear Claw Casino staff aimed their water guns the kids squealed in joy on the hot day as they were soaked by streams of water.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý It was an event enjoyed by many, while helping a good cause.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý The Heart and Stroke Foundation was founded in 1952 and since then the death from heart disease and stroke has declined by more than 75 percent according to the Foundation’s website. However, despite this drop, heart disease and stroke continues to remain a leading cause of death amongst Canadians, with nine in 10 men and women have at least one risk factor for heart disease or stroke.

ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý With an aging population and a younger generation more at risk than ever before, the issue has become more urgent as things such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity increase. By living healthy and being aware of your body approximately 80 percent of premature heart disease and stroke is preventable according to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
