Assiniboia Town Council approves several bylaws

Several bylaws were approved by the Assiniboia Town Council, during their regular meeting held on May 10.

ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Town Council meeting was held on May 10. Attending the meeting were Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; CAO Clint Mauthe; director of corporate services, Kerri Martin; Councillors Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harveyand Peter Kordus; operations foreman, Ray Delorme; and recreation manager, Stephanie VanDeSype. Public acknowledgements was given to Assiniboia Times.

Kerri Martin was recognized for 10 years of service to the Town of Assiniboia. 

The agenda was accepted as read and adopted with two additions. Moved by Fettes/ Harvey.

The minutes of the last council meeting accepted as read and adopted. Moved by Kordus/Fettes.

The minutes of the Assiniboia Museum from March 16 and April 21 were accepted and adopted as read. The minutes of the Planning and Economic Development from March 22 were accepted and adopted as read. The minutes of the Recreation and Community Wellness from March 21 were accepted and adopted as read.  All moved by Grondin/Kordus.

Correspondence was received from Music Festival with a thank you. The annual report from Sask Housing was accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Grondin/Fettes.

Reports were given by CAO Clint Mauthe along with the list of paid accounts be accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Fettes/ Ellert.

New Business

The Town of Assiniboia approved the purchase of a groomer to be used on the ball diamonds.  This will be owned and maintained by the town. Moved by Ellert/Harvey.

Council approved the closing of the block from Centre Street to First Avenue on May 14 for the Â鶹ÊÓƵern Cruisers Car Club Show and Shine. Moved by Grondin/Fettes.

Coucil approved the closing of Third Avenue West from First Street West to the parking lot of the Â鶹ÊÓƵern Cruisers Car Club for the Shurniak Gallery Summer Celebration Fundraiser to be held on Saturday, July 2. Moved by Grondin/Fettes.

Council approved the appointment of Amanda Kaufman as a Licensed Building Official in accordance with Professional Building Inspections Inc. Request moved by Kordus/ Grondin.

David Kashmere is retiring as a Licensed Building Official. Moved by Fettes/ Grondin.

The council of Assiniboia gave first, second, third and final reading to Building Bylaw as required by Construction Code Act.  First reading moved by Ellert/Grondin.Second reading moved by Kordus/ Grondin. Third reading moved by Ellert/Fettes. Final reading moved by Harvey/Fettes.

Council gave first, second, third and final reading to Bylaw amendment forming a part of Fees and Charges Bylaw. First reading moved by Fettes/Kordus. Second reading moved by Grondin/Fettes. Third reading moved by Kordus/Harvey. Final reading was moved by Ellert/Kordus.

Council approved permit for development of storage yard with conditions at Lot 4 block 32.  Moved by Harvey/Fettes. Council approved the purchase of a 2017 Hydra vacuum. This was moved by Ellert/Kordus.

Council gives first, second, third and final reading to bylaw to establish a Mail-In Ballot voting system. First reading moved by Fettes/Grondin. Second reading moved by Harvey/Kordus. Third reading moved by Fettes/Ellert. Final reading moved by Harvey/Kordus.

Mayor Schauenberg and coucillors gave report on meetings and forums attended since last meeting. 

The next meeting of Assiniboia Town Council will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m.
