Since each club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their area in any way they see fit. On Thursday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a fundraiser held in Arcola. Held at MacMurray Theatre, the Optimist Club of Arcola has organized a concert to raise money for upgrading the theatre's projector system to digital. It will cost about $75,000 to make this happen and tickets will soon be on sale, watch for posters to get more information. Available now the limited number of tickets can be found at Chapman and Sons Store, 455-2202, or by phoning Alan and Cathy Burton at 455-2751.

The MacMurray Theatre is located right on Main Street. It is operated by the Optimist Club, as well as the Arcola School SRC, and volunteers from the community.

As stated on the Optimist International website, "Optimist Clubs are autonomous, self-governed, community-based service organizations that raise their own funds and decide how to spend that money to support the youth in their own community." If you are interested in becoming a member of the Arcola chapter then you are encouraged to contact Alan Burton, club president. They do what they can for and with the youth in the area.

There will be a limited number of tickets available, which will be sold for $15 if bought in advance or $20 at the door. Blake Berglund will be performing a two hour concert. Berglund is promoting his third album, Coyote, and being a Kennedy native happily accepted the invitation to play in southeastern Saskatchewan. Having won the Rising Star Award at the 2011 Saskatchewan Country Music Awards, he has been working hard writing and recording music. His new album, Coyote, comes out June 19, but will be available at the show in Arcola on June 14 since it is a CD release party.
