The last Thursday of every month at Arcola School, between September and June, hosts a Family Fun Night.

For the month of October, as Hallowe'en landed on the last Thursday of the month, the family fun night was held on Oct. 24. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. students, parents, and staff attended. With youth playing in the gym, making crafts, icing cookies, and playing foosball it was a night enjoyed by many.

SRC President, John Davies, also brought forth the idea of a chili cook off, which became a great success for the evening.

The SRC, having gone to businesses in the area, found generous donations including movie passes to gift certificates and a school water bottle for prizes.

In all a total of seven pots of chili were brought to the school. From spicy to sweet, each pot of chili had its own special flavour. The first round of judging saw Teresa Johnston and her daughter Hanna, the Sr. Boys' volleyball team, and sisters Maggie and Madison Matthews all move on to the second round.

A second round of judging occurred based solely on these top three chili pots. In the end the Matthews sisters won the competition, which was made even more special as they celebrated their seventh birthday with the win.

Second place was then awarded to the Johnston's and the Sr. Boys' volleyball team took third place.

Overall the fun family night was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all in Arcola.

Davies explained that bringing the school together is important and thus they organize school dances, help with volleyball tournaments, and simply ensure the students and staff of the school are engaged.
