Up until mid-September there were rumours that the Alida Haunted House wouldn't be held. Though this was true at the time, with the rink having been flooded, they have decided to host a one day mini haunted house and fun fair on Sunday, Oct. 26 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the Alida hall.
It was in September, however, that these rumours reached a group in Arcola. Knowing how many people enjoy this outing each year and hearing that the Alida Haunted House would not be held, Limitless Events Inc. decided to host one for the kids and adults who enjoy such an event.
"We had heard Alida wouldn't be putting theirs on, there were rumours that they were unable to do it, so we decided we should," Tammy Workman, explained.
Workman is an organizer with Limitless Events Inc. which was made up of a group of women who are interested in providing activities and events for families. Most are women who have come from the city and were looking for something to do. Though inspired by a want of more activities and events in the area, Limitless Events Inc. quickly decided to become a non-profit organization and give any money made back to the surrounding communities.
The group began on the haunted house about a month ago and have been planning the layout and acquiring items to include.
"We have a good group of people doing it so it makes for easy planning," Workman explained. "We have a group of five or six and then we've got lots of help from local volunteers as well who are always willing to support us."
"We have some really Hallowe'en crazed people working on this, so there are many ideas coming up that I never would have thought of to make this great."
The Arcola Haunted House will be held at the Exhibition Building on Balmoral Ave. They are opening the frightful adventure for Wednesday, Oct. 29, Thursday, Oct. 30, and on Friday, Oct. 31. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and cost will be $10 per person, while a special "scare free" tour will be held on Oct. 31 for younger children between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at $2 per person.
"We raise money and donate it back into the community," Workman said of Limitless Events. "We've been very fortunate this year and we've raised over $110,000, which a large part of that went to Saskatchewan Flood Aid."
"We will be having a board meeting in Arcola on Jan. 6 and will know how much we've made from the Extravaganza, this, and our New Year's party. We're going to accept submissions and let the community decide where the money is going."
