On Saturday, Mar. 24, Arcola Daycare hosted their 2nd annual Spring Fling Kids Carnival at Prairie Place. There were over 200 children and adults attend this very fun and worthwhile event. There was a variety of activities aimed at children under the age of 10. Some of the activities included: Bouncy Castles, Face painting, Fish Pod, Noodle Maze, Stay and Play area, colouring area and the very messy but very popular Needle in a Hay Stack!

The goal of the Spring Fling is for families to have a fun day and at the same time capturing some much needed funds for the daycare centre. Admission to the event is by donation, the organizing committee felt that this is important so all families can attend. There were also tickets sold on a Chinese Auction full of toys that was generously donated by: Precision Ag and agricultural chemical companies Dupont, BASF and Dow AgroSciences. In addition, they incorporated another draw for a Leap Pad, it was donated by Syngenta Crop Protection and won by Zane and Reese Karlunchuk of Kisbey.

There was also a guest performance by Cooper, the Co-op Bear. He attended with Arcola Co-op General Manager, Cindy Kolenz. The children scrabbled to get their chance to hug and talk to Cooper. The children also received colouring books and crayons as gifts from Cooper.

For those who needed refueling there was a variety of carnival type food available including: Hotdogs, Cotton Candy, Carmel Apples and Popcorn. A huge thank you goes to Champman Fine Foods and Optimist Club of Arcola for their donations.

There was also a Children's Art Auction that captured a lot of attention. All the daycare children painted pictures on canvasses and silent bid sheets were set up. There is always a lot of fun with parents bidding up others and parents of course wanting to take their child's picture home. The highest picture sold for $30. It is a great and fun way to donate to the Daycare Centre.

Every year the daycare board works diligently to ensure the proper operation of the daycare centre, staffing and financial controls. The Arcola Daycare AGM was held earlier in the week on Wednesday, March 21st. In the review of the 2011 audited financial statements the daycare only saw a net profit of $531. The board of directors allowed their names to stand for another term; this includes Stacy Brownridge as Chair, Candace Dionne as Treasurer, Lorelie Wyatt as Secretary/Public Relations, Monica Henning as Human Resources, Ashley Johnson as Fundraising and Nicole Maitland as Daycare/Playschool Representative.

The financial support from various local and big businesses in our area is vital to daycare operations. These sponsors have donated much needed funds that will help sustain the daycare for upcoming year.

With the ongoing success of this event the organizing committee has decided to host another event in 2013! It will be around the same time of year late March to early April. Thank you again for all of those who attended and see you next year!
