From movies to haunted houses, being spooked is often looked forward to by many during the Hallowe'en season.
Though some people see those who look forward to being scared as crazy, it is something that provides entertainment to many.
These mediums provide an adrenaline rush without actually being in danger and those at the Alida Haunted House enjoy helping people find their fear.
With many volunteers, Shelly Cowan finds, the Alida Recreation Board's annual haunted house a great success each year.
The event, after organizers discussed, was discovered to have been operating for 15 to 16 years, instead of the previously 10, it was thought to be.
Beginning with local town kids coming and going, it has since grown exponentially.
"It started off small," Cowan explained. "Local town kids would go through eight times and back then we first charged $2 for each time through. Now it has grown and we only charge $5, so the price hasn't changed much."
Though the price hasn't changed very much, the number of people who comes through the door has increased.
"We had 115 the first night and 200 last night [Saturday, Oct. 26]," Cowan stated.
Since Hallowe'en lands on a Thursday this year, the group was only able to hold the event for one weekend; but, numbers of attendees has still been high.
Sunday, Oct. 27, also brought out many younger children dressed in Hallowe'en costumes to enjoy the Hallowe'en festivities. As the haunted house can frighten young children, a fun fair was held to give them a chance to take in candy and games.
Able to win candies and toys youth enjoyed a variety of fun activities during the two hour event on Sunday.
A fun way to bring together fun and frights the Alida Haunted House has become an event talked about across the southeast.
Taken on tour by one of the guides, those who attend enter the haunted house to severed heads and walk through rooms with a variety of different spooks. From clowns to ghosts, ghouls, and zombies there are many frights hiding in the darkness.
Through tapping on shoulders and pulling at pant legs one is never sure when or where the next spook will pop out.
With a final haunting to occur on Hallowe'en night, the Alida Rec. Board has seen another successful season of frights.
